The concept of paint & wine has become a popular activity for gatherings and a night out for fun. No experience is required to attend which welcomes everyone who has interest to complete a painting. What about the customers who want to build upon their interest? Brush & Wine wants to take a step further and cater to educating and prepping anyone with artistry skills.
New business idea calls for solution to retain and grow customer base.
We want to know what challenges the business faces so that we can help with business goals and drive customer traffic.
A pool of 5 participants took part in the interviews. Each of the participants vary in painting skills background to capture different groups of targeted users.
Insights are obtained from the client, Participant A, and customers or independent artists, Participants B - E. This gives perspective as to what an experienced artist hopes to help others achieve. Meanwhile, we are able to understand the challenges and frustrations of learning to paint.
Classes are for more professional artists because not a lot of spaces or workshops for professional or amateurs. Would want to offer something for artists themselves.
Obstacles learning through online is not knowing how to do the right stroke, putting too much pressure, not being able to control how much pressure and not knowing the painting techniques.
Challenge as a student would be not knowing the fundamentals - like how to apply the paint, how much water to dip, the strokes and pressure to created the wanted lines.
Feels very rewarding when done and a victory when completed painting.
Interested in painting but whenever try to paint it does not turn out well and disappointed because of having high standards for themselves. Will join with wife.
Before diving into creating the elements and functionalities of the application, I conducted a competitive analysis of what the market is offering. Below are 4 competitors - 3 direct and 1 indirect - for comparison. The 1 indirect competitor is focused on painting on ceramics rather than a canvas.



We want to go along with Hailey to empathize with her thoughts and emotions as she participates in a paint & wine session.

The homepage captures the services provided along with ability to enroll in the Academy. In order to capture the essence of an online course, it was crucial to include the steps and visuals to guide user where to navigate intuitively. These are the main screens and other supplemental screens will be developed as necessary to strengthen the Academy.




A usability study was conducted with participants within LA county who have painted before and who are indifferent about painting. This includes full-time and part-time workers and students.
We’re creating a painting studio with an academy extension portion to help beginner and emerging artists to develop their skills. Before launching, we need to figure out if enrolling and navigating the course is intuitive for users to do. We’d like to understand what specific challenges or needs users might face in the enrollment, learning process, how to resolve issues identified.
Figure out if users can intuitively know where to navigate to complete the course.
After conducting the study, one key area to focus on is the intuitiveness of the design. Participants expressed confusion on the first half of the flow and found it straightforward towards the second half. Additionally, results were obtained from both the client and independent artists.










There will always be areas that have potential to be better. As much as I want to take into consideration of all the roadblocks that users experienced with the prototype, I had to take a step back to see what is of utmost importance. In addition, I had to use sound judgement in how any changes will affect the core goals of the design.
When working with a client, I realized I had to be flexible and embrace the decisions made. It was natural to stray from the purpose of creating for the client to imposing my own thoughts of design choice. Equally significant to be proud of my work, this is a reminder that the client's satisfaction comes first as the designs are for them.
